Having purchased almost 7 acres of land in the heart of southwest Columbia, we are now ready to turn our vision into reality.
BUILDING A HOME for JEWISH LIFE in MID-MISSOURI
- A center for spiritual, religious, educational, cultural, historical and socialneeds of individuals and families
- A representative voice for Judaism in central Missouri
- A link to Jewish people throughout the world and to Israel
- A legacy for future generations of Jews in mid-Missouri
WHAT?
After a formal needs assessment and feasibility study, the Congregation has developed a plan for a new 19,800 sq. ft. facility, while maintaining the current renovated “farmhouse.” It is estimated that this facility will cost $1.5 milllion. To date, we have raised much of the amount through personal contributions from local families.
WHY?
“The challenge for our generation of Jewish Columbians is to create a lasting physical presence in the form of a structure: a place where Jews can congregate, recreate, pray and dream. We do not see this as a burden, but rather as a privilege to be able to impact the future and bequeath a legacy to our people. We feel fortunate to be a part of this special moment in the life of our community.”
- Judy & Jerry Schermer
“A Jewish synagogue further demonstrates Columbia’s diverse cultural and ethnic fabric and its reputation as a welcome home for all.”
- David Shorr
“We must look to our children’s future. Nourishing our soil strengthens our roots, and is essential for the healthy growth of our community – the only significant Jewish presence between St. Louis and Kansas City. We support the CBS building fund!”
- Willie Wilson & Vicky Riback Wilson
