“ Tikkun Olam,” repairing our world, is one of the most important principles of Judaism. And December is a great time of year to get out there and help out people who are less fortunate than ourselves. If you and your family are looking for way to help others, here are some ideas:
Advent’s Teen Work program needs volunteers to mentor local youth in the workplace. If you are interested in hiring a young person and willing to be or provide a mentor for them on the job, call Elaine Curren at 474-8560 ext. 3067.
Advent’s Youth Mentoring program needs volunteer mentors to match with local pregnant and parenting teens. If you feel called to be an inspirational presence in the life of a young parent, call Nikole Potutsky at 474-8560 ext. 3017 and get involved.
Voluntary Action Center can always use help. Call 449-6959.
Boone County Council on Aging can always use help. Call Melanie at 443-1111.
Congregation Beth Shalom (yes, that’s us!) always needs help. Most especially, we’re looking for folks willing to clean the synagogue once a month. It doesn’t take long, and saves us loads on a cleaning service. Volunteer to come every month for a couple hours, or volunteer to be called on the occasional basis as a fill-in helper.
